If your blog is promoting a shop or site then having it hosted within the site /blog as oposed to on its own domain. this helps your main site attract new custom with blog posts that relate to your product types, using terms that compliment but dont match your products and services. If you intend to build a resource with some sneaky links out to your site then you can use any blogging playform, blogger.com is great if you want instant alexa ranking and the ability to customise design, but wordpress is better if you want a slick ui and the ability to work rapidly. keep the two apart!
